Major Adesagba Adekoya, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, presented a cheque to the wife and family of late officer Kehinde Fabunmi on behalf of the Executive Governor of Oyo State. This gesture demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to supporting the families of its personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

As the head of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya has been instrumental in enhancing traffic regulation across Oyo State, including the recruitment of 500 new officers to boost the agency’s operations. His leadership has also focused on modernizing traffic management systems and promoting road safety in the State.

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), led by Chairman Major Adekoya Adesagba (Retired), recently paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oyo sector command. During the visit, Major Adekoya Adesagba received a plague from Sector Commander CC Alor Rosemary.

This visit highlights the collaborative efforts between OYRTMA and FRSC to ensure road safety and traffic management in Oyo State. OYRTMA has been working to regulate and manage traffic, while FRSC focuses on road safety and accident prevention.

Major Adekoya Adesagba has been instrumental in leading OYRTMA’s efforts to enhance traffic regulation across the state. Recently, the agency launched a series of raids against traffic light offenders, traffic obstruction/illegal parking, illegal street traders within Ibadan metropolis, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining order and safety on Oyo State’s roads.

They were accompanied by the Garrison Commander of the Nigerian Army’s Second Division. During the event, Major Adekoya was also seen with Major Salawu, a pioneer Director of Operations at the Federal Road Safety Commission ¹. The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), over the weekend launched a series of raids against illegal street traders within Ibadan metropolis.

The operation, led by the agency’s Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), spanned a day and targeted Oritamerin, Gege, Agbeni and Ogunpa areas of the State.

According to Adesagba, who was accompanied by the General Manager, Commander Ayoade Adekola, the move aims to tackle the issues of blocked roads and slow traffic regulation in the area.

He said the areas had been converted into makeshift markets, leading to severe traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

Adesagba highlighted that the activities violate environmental laws, contributing to indiscriminate waste disposal and drainage systems, thereby worsening flooding in parts of the city.

The Chairman expressed disappointment at the marketers’ failure to comply with government regulations, seizing their market stalls and imposing fines on those caught.

Additionally 12 individuals operating an illegal motor park in the market were also apprenended, with fines imposed on the offenders.

He warned marketers to desist from selling on the roads, emphasizing that the Government’s efforts are geared towards ensuring their safety and protecting their property.

“The OYRTMA’s enforcement operation is part of the Oyo State Government’s broader efforts to reduce accidents and improve road safety”, he said.

“This Government’s initiatives have led to a significant reduction in accidents, making the roads safer for marketers and road users alike”, he added.

According to him, OYRTMA’s actions have been commended for promoting a conducive environment for business and transportation in Oyo State.

…two apprehended

A tricycle rider on Thursday assaulted an officer of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) who was on enforcement operation.

According to eyewitnesses, the OYRTMA team got to Mokola, Ibadan, to correct illegal parking when the tricycle rider, who parked in front of a commercial bank, became aggressive and fought the officers.

The assaulted officer, Toheeb Abbas was severely injured in the attack and was left blood-soaked.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Chairman, OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd) condemned the assault, describing it as a shocking incident.

He stated that “attacking our officers is equivalent to fighting the Government’s efforts to ensure public safety and protect lives and property.”

“The perpetrators will face the full weight of the law,” the Chairman warned.

Adekoya stressed further that, the incident highlights the growing concern over violence against enforcement officers in the State.

The OYRTMA Chairman vowed that this will not deter officers, saying “we will continue in our efforts to maintain law and order on the roads, despite the challenges”.
